Every New Beginning…
I’ve started and stopped writing this more times than I can count.
How do you say goodbye to something that has been such a big part of your life for almost ten years?
The time has come for me to close EK Photography.
I will be accepting new bookings through December 1, 2026, and after that, I will no longer be taking on new clients.
And honestly, I’ve been trying to make this decision for over a year.
I’ve hemmed and hawed. I’ve convinced myself I had made a decision, only to find myself unable to actually let go. I would tell myself, Okay, this is it. I’m done. And then I’d think about all of the people, the memories, the creativity, and everything EK Photography has meant to me, and I just couldn't quite do it.
Because walking away from something you love is hard.
EK Photography started as something I loved doing. Somewhere along the way, it became so much more than that. It became a business, a creative outlet, a second job, a source of so many friendships, and a huge part of who I was for a very long time.
And, most importantly, it gave me all of you.
Over the years, you trusted me with some of the most important moments in your lives. I got to photograph your weddings, your engagements, your growing families, your babies, your graduating seniors, birthdays, anniversaries, Christmas cards, and all of the little moments that don't always feel important until you look back at them years later.
Some of you booked me once.
Some of you came back year after year.
Some of you started as clients and somehow became friends.
There are families I've watched grow up in front of my camera, and I can't even put into words what that has meant to me.
I have always said that I don't want my photography to be about perfectly posed pictures. I want the photos to feel like you. I want you to look at them years from now and remember what that season of your life actually felt like.
Getting to be the person who helped preserve those memories has been an incredible privilege.
But life looks different than it did when I started EKP.
Today, I am an administrator at a behavioral health school, a role that has become a really important part of who I am. And this spring, I’ll be completing my principal certification, something I have dreamed about since my very first days in the classroom.
That dream has been sitting quietly in the back of my mind for a very long time. Now, after years of working toward it, I’m finally getting close to seeing it become a reality.
At the same time, I have kids who are growing up way too quickly, a family, a home, and all of the responsibilities that come with this season of life.
And I've realized that I can't keep giving EK Photography whatever time is left over.
That isn't fair to my clients, and honestly, it isn't fair to me either.
Photography deserves more than whatever hours I can find at the end of a long workday or after everything else has been taken care of. My clients deserve a photographer who has the time and energy to give them her very best.
I don't want to wait until photography feels like an obligation before I walk away.
I want to leave it still loving it.
And I do.
I still love my camera. I still love good light. I still get excited when I see a beautiful location or catch a moment that would make the perfect photograph.
That part of me isn't going anywhere.
But EK Photography, as a business, has reached the end of its chapter.
And what a chapter it has been.
When I look back at the last almost ten years, I don't think first about the bookings or the business side of things. I think about the people.
I think about the families who trusted me over and over again.
The couples who let me into their wedding days.
The kids who grew up in front of my lens.
The clients who referred their friends.
The people who shared my posts, recommended me, left reviews, sent kind messages, or simply followed along all these years.
You helped make EK Photography what it became.
You gave me something I will always be proud of.
So, if you've ever stepped in front of my camera, thank you.
If you've ever trusted me with a moment that mattered to you, thank you.
If you've ever told someone about EK Photography, thank you.
If you've been here since the beginning or found me somewhere along the way, thank you.
And if you're one of the people who has come back year after year, I hope you know just how much that has meant to me.
I don't know exactly what photography will look like in my life after EKP. Maybe someday I'll pick up my camera just because I want to. Maybe I'll photograph my own family more. Maybe I'll miss it terribly and find another way to make room for it.
For now, I'm just going to let myself be grateful for what it was.
Almost ten years.
Thousands of photographs.
Hundreds of people.
Countless memories.
A career I never expected to build.
A dream I'm now chasing in a different way.
And one very full heart.
Thank you for making EK Photography a part of your lives.
It has been one of the greatest honors of mine.
E :)
